CLIFFTOP LANE

On this project, our clients wanted to modernize their home while maximizing living space. Our clients were really involved right from the start and actively took part in the design. The main objectives of the design brief were to add some curb appeal, take advantage of the beautiful views, increase the living spaces and fill them with light, while also creating cozy, private zones. At the same time we maintained as much of the existing as possible to reduce costs.

We started by taking a detailed look at the zoning and ran some calculations. We were able to take advantage of a basement level exclusion and add around 800 sq feet of living space in the basement, 200 sq ft to the garage, 600 sq feet to the upper level, as well as a 450 sq ft auxiliary building. We raised the roof to allow us the get light into the double height living area from all sides, and floor to ceiling windows to give views in all directions, so this space really feels huge and connected to your surroundings. To contrast this we added a much more private lounge in the basement in previously unused space, which now consists of a wine cellar, bar, recreation zone and space for a cinema screen.

To make this the dream Whistler home, we also added an auxiliary spa building, nestled amongst the trees at the bottom of the site. This comprises of a gym/yoga room, sauna with an outdoor covered jacuzzi and plunge pool. The perfect place to relax after a day on the slopes.

We maintained all the trees on site and used as many natural materials as possible, such as wood and stone, both internally an externally, to enhance the tactile experience and increase the connection to nature.

By using BIM software, we were able to issue our clients with 3D models regularly, so they could walk around the home themselves and really visualize what their home was going to feel like and give us loads of feedback, which allowed us to create exactly what they were after.
