Modernizing A Whistler Classic Home

This two-phase renovation project brings new life to a 1970s home, blending smart design with future-forward energy upgrades. In Phase 1, we’re reworking the layout to add a lower-level suite, a new guest room upstairs, and overall improvements to flow and functionality. Alongside this transformation, we’re updating the building envelope and mechanical systems to meet today’s energy-efficient standards. In Phase 2, the footprint expands further into the existing garage, while a new garage structure is built—adding even more livable space for the family to enjoy.

Functional + Efficient

The first phase focuses on both space and performance. We’re adding a guest suite on the lower level, a guest room on the upper floor, and reconfiguring key areas of the layout to better suit the family’s needs. From the outside in, the energy efficiency is also getting a major boost—with upgraded walls, window replacements, and a deep truss roof system that allows for dense cellulose insulation. New HRV, heat pump, and hot water systems round out the mechanical upgrades, ensuring this home is comfortable and low-consumption all year long.

Expanding the Footprint

Once Phase 1 is complete, the focus shifts to increasing overall square footage. The existing garage will be converted into interior living space, creating room for additional functionality on both levels of the home. A new detached garage will be built to replace the original—strategically placed to work with the site and add visual appeal. Together, both phases result in a thoughtfully expanded and updated home that feels modern, efficient, and made for the future.
